Throughout Composition 2, I thought I would struggle with the writing in this course compared to Composition one. In composition one, I didn’t receive the feedback I wanted, so I didn’t know what to improve upon. I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses when I started composition two. The feedback and resources provided by Professor Hammett made me confident about writing in this course. Pointing out the different mistakes I make in writing and what to do better has been impactful for me because I put this knowledge into the other course I'm taking. Doing composition dual enrollment in high school is a great experience to have and I would recommend Professor Hammett to other students.
In this course, I put together the overall theme of solutions to finding missing children in America. The first project essay process taught me a lot about arguments. I learned to connect the theme throughout the body paragraphs and analyze the quotes stated from articles. I mostly narrowed down quotes related to what happens at home and to teach safety. I evaluated both sides of the argument and addressed the sides in each paragraph to gain credibility. The first time I submitted the essay something was missing. I didn’t have a lot of input in the essay which made it lacking. I got the chance to revise it and look over it with my writing center advisers and make the essay stand out. I also learned to format correctly in this essay, especially for citing sources. I was confused about how to do the block citations for a while, but I got the idea of how to use it. This essay showed me my weaknesses and how to fix them.
My project essay two is my favorite written in this course because I'm addressing an author's point of view which in this case is Franz Klafka's belief regarding the missing children epidemic. It was fun to write on the take because I'm learning something as I write the analysis. I learned that the real solution to the epidemic is to have help from the government and teach safety to children. Without these things, the epidemic will continue to grow. In my previous comp course, I had to follow the same concept of having a theme for the unit, but my work wasn’t analyzed like it was in this unit.
Lastly reading other peer arguments on epidemics in a discussion inspired me to add certain things to my research paper. Evaluating each other's writing is a process I didn’t have in composition one and helped me to grow in my writing for college. Even though I lacked knowledge on how to start an essay, the outline helped me to get essays done faster and easy to read. I'm not the best at writing and grammar, but I have grown quite a bit as a writer. I have to continue to apply these strategies in other college classes to come because I see the outcome of what it does.
